🔨 Blog Series: Surrendered Obedience & Abundance: Reflecting God-Esteem
— Millicent V. Brown

In our last series, we discovered the beauty of slowing down—taking simple steps toward burnout recovery, finding ways to recharge, recognizing the gift of emotional support (sometimes in the most unexpected places), and learning to Selah: to pause and breathe with God.
Today, we step into something new.🔨 Blog Series: Surrendered Obedience & Abundance: Reflecting God-EsteemHere, we’ll explore how living in step with God’s will—trusting, obeying, and surrendering—opens the door to blessings we could never orchestrate on our own.
We begin with a story close to my heart:🍳 Blog #1: Three Breakfasts and a Blessing: Finding God’s Voice in the Ordinary Moments.
Because sometimes, His whispers come not in the earthquake or the fire, but in the quiet clink of dishes, the aroma of coffee, and the breaking of bread.
It wasn’t a mountaintop revelation.
It wasn’t a booming voice from the clouds.
It was breakfast.
One morning, I woke up excited—excited about life, health, purpose, and the simple joy of a new day. I had plans: breakfast, a little writing, maybe even a dance with productivity. I’d just finished preparing breakfast for our fur baby and me, since my husband had a breakfast meeting. All was peaceful.
Then came the unexpected.
There was a task my husband and I needed to complete. I had it all planned: I’d get a head start while he attended his meeting. But now, plans were shifting.
My husband, who was heading to his breakfast meeting, came in looking for something to eat. At first, I thought about the fact that I had already prepared breakfast for Rollo and myself, but then it became clear—it wasn’t really about breakfast. Even if it was, I believe it was his way of still wanting to share in our morning family ritual of prayer and togetherness.
Who could be upset at that?
Sometimes, we don’t fully know how to express our love, but it shows up in the simplest of requests—if we stop and hear God's still small voice speaking in the moment.
There is something holy about not being so busy that we forget the seemingly small things that matter most—those God-ordained moments of love, unity, and presence. For us, this ritual is not just a routine—it’s sacred. It's our shared devotion and connection to God, a quiet offering of gratitude that includes all of us—my husband, myself, and even our fur baby, who always seems to sit right at the center of our prayer circle. In that holy space, we are reminded: God is the foundation of this family, and He meets us right where we are—around the table, in our routines, and in our hearts.
Still, I embraced the moment. I made breakfast #3 (Rollo’s, mine, then his). We enjoyed the quiet—no disagreements, no conflict, no stress. Morning calm wrapped us in peaceful conversation, gentle understanding, and God's whisper of grace, sprinkled with the comfort of routine that feels like home.
Later, we completed our assignment together and God showed up in a mighty way. We didn’t just save time, energy, and money—we gained a testimony.
He overtalked a bit during the call at one point (lol), but we both stayed calm. I muted the phone, smiled, and let God’s peace do the talking. No stress. No anxiety. Just results — and God’s favor in an answered prayer.
After the call, my husband and I whispered another prayer, one of gratitude for the person who answered our call...and God’s call. We didn’t just thank Him for what He did for us — we asked that He bless them and their family with an overflow of His abundant grace.
I was reminded of this simple truth:
“Be anxious for nothing...”—Philippians 4:6
Then came another opportunity to choose peace. My friend and I had scheduled another workout. But life happened—she had repairmen at her home, husband schedules, shifting pieces. I could feel her stress through the phone. But instead of pushing, I responded:
“Let’s just stick with the class we planned for Friday and start fresh next week. No stress.”
You could feel the relief—for both of us.
Then I realized something even greater:
I hadn’t stressed about the PDF we were waiting on, either.
It would happen. I knew it would. But God was doing something bigger in me. I was growing in wisdom—not stress. I was learning to enjoy this time I have with the Lord.
🪞 Affirmation:
“I choose to walk in peace and gratitude, recognizing God’s voice in the small things. I trust Him in every assignment, every pause, and every moment of grace.”
📿 Final Reflection:
We can plan our days down to the minute—but God's blueprint will always unfold in His time.
This blog? It’s more than three breakfasts. It’s about a blessing.
A blessing found in the whisper. A blessing served in a plate of eggs. A blessing spoken through calm words and muted phones. A blessing wrapped in togetherness—our morning family ritual of prayer, peace, and grace.
And oh—don’t forget our fur baby, who always finds his way to the center when we pray. That’s family too. 🐾❤️
