Returning to the Cross When the World Feels Unsteady
There are seasons when the world feels unsettled on every side.
We hear of wars and rumors of wars…
Flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes…
Rising prices of gas, food, and housing…
Loss of jobs, income, benefits, healthcare…
Families strained… friendships tested…
Even churches declining… ministries discouraged…
It can feel as though everything stable is shifting at once.
Yet in the midst of it all, there remains an invitation — not to panic, not to despair, but to return to our true center.
Come Back to the Cross
In seasons like this, I am reminded of the place where everything was already settled — the cross. Near the cross, we remember what was given up so that we might have life — not just someday, but abundant life now and forever.
John 10:10 tells us that Jesus came so we might have life “more abundantly.”
Abundant life does not mean trouble-free life.It means God-filled life.
When we draw near to the cross, perspective changes:
Fear gives way to faith.
Noise gives way to stillness.
Anxiety gives way to assurance.
Turmoil Outside Does Not Have to Become Turmoil Inside
The storms around us are real.
But they do not have to rule our hearts.
Jesus Himself warned that difficult times would come, yet He also promised peace:
John 14:27 —“My peace I give to you… not as the world gives.”
This peace is not dependent on headlines, economies, or circumstances. It is rooted in relationship with the One who is all-knowing, all-powerful, everywhere present, and perfectly loving.
🕊️ Under His Wing
Psalm 91:4 says:
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.”
Under His wing we find:
Peace
Love
Joy
Safety of heart
Rest for weary souls
The Path Back Is Surrendered Obedience
Peace is not found by controlling everything. It is found by surrendering to the One who already does. Surrendered obedience says:
I will trust even when I don’t understand.
I will follow even when the path is unclear.
I will rest even when the storm continues.
Resting in the Storm
When Jesus slept in the boat during the storm (Mark 4:39), the storm did not wake Him — fear did.
Peace is not denial.
Peace is confidence in God’s presence.
We too can:
Rest.
Believe.
Obey.
One Moment at a Time
In seasons when everything feels overwhelming, we are reminded of something simple and sacred:
Life is not lived all at once.
It is lived moment by moment.
We are formed cell by cell…
Created in His image…
From the dust of the earth, one grain at a time…
One second becomes a minute.
A minute becomes an hour.
An hour becomes a day…
And eventually, a lifetime.
We are not asked to carry all of time at once.
We are invited to live this moment.
🎨 A Portion of the Portrait
Only God sees the entire picture.
We see fragments.
He sees fulfillment.
We see interruptions.
He sees intention.
We see isolated events.
He sees a masterpiece unfolding.
Each of us is a brushstroke in His great portrait — not random, not wasted, not meaningless.
❤️ Returning to Our First Love
When life becomes overwhelming, the answer is not to withdraw from God — it is to draw closer.
Near Him, we rediscover our true focus.
Peace is still available.Love is still present. Joy is still possible — even in the storm.
Closing Encouragement
If everything around you feels uncertain right now, you are not alone.
Come back to the cross.
Come back under His wing.
Come back to the One who never changes.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, when the world feels unstable, draw us closer to You.
Quiet our fears, steady our hearts, and teach us to trust You moment by moment. Amen.
Affirmation
I am held in God’s peace, protected by His love, and guided by His wisdom.
